This is my second of Lake's books and I chose this one because I liked the first one so much. He has a way of making history come alive. Even though his books are fictional they are based on sufficient research to convince the reader that things could well have been as his writing portrays it. My only regret with "Land of Blood and Water" has to do with the editor's proof reading. Unfortunately the book contains multiple typo errors. Just the same, this is an exceptional read and I recommend it to everyone who appreciates fist class history based novels.Product details

Lake makes history come to life and enjoyable to read!
Again find myself wishing the sequel was already written. Hated for this book to end.
Quite possibly one of the most poorly written and downright boring examples of this genre ...
...as Alfred the Great, step by step, becomes great. The author both respects the historical record and produces an excellent read. Cudos!

This book covered interesting historical figures and I found it rather engrossing. I can not attest to it actually being fact but, it was a good read and I will read more of his stories.
Very good read. I have enjoyed every book I have read by Mr. Lake (The Lost King series, A Love Most Dangerous). The characters are thoroughly thought out and well-rounded. I enjoy learning about the so-called dark ages and early middle ages because it is a time lost in history.
King Alfred and his family go through many harrowing experiences as they try to evade the Danes. Then the vanguard of the army finds a humble family living peacefully away from anything and all havoc breaks loose. Brand's family are tough enough to endure whatever is thrown at them rape, glory, slavery, back to glory.
You will enjoy this book and the ones that follow.
